NEW YORK/BALI: A+E Networks is increasing its ownership of The History Channel Japan (THCJ) from 50 percent to 80 percent.

Super Network/Tohokushisha (TFC) will remain a partner in the venture, which was established as a 50-50 partnership in 2000. The investment from A+E Networks brings a host of digital rights to THCJ and reflects the company’s commitment to backing the Japanese outfit’s OTT initiatives.

“A+E Networks is enormously proud of our 15-year partnership with TFC in Japan and this transaction aligns our interests for the next phase of growth together,” said Sean Cohan, president of international and digital media at A+E Networks. “The addition of digital rights significantly enhances the partnership to better serve our distribution and ad sales partners in Japan.”
