Wattpad, Vidio & Screenplay Films Align for Trio of Projects

The Indonesian streaming service Vidio is working with Screenplay Films and Wattpad on three new original series.

The slate of Bahasa Indonesia projects is the first from the first-look deal between Wattpad and Screenplay Films to develop hit Indonesian Wattpad stories for Vidio, the new home of Wattpad adaptations in Indonesia.

After accumulating 16.4 million reads on Wattpad, Turn On will stream on Vidio in Q1 2021. The series will star Giorgino Abraham and Clara Bernadeth, with a screen adaptation written by Keke Mayang and Ve Handojo. In Turn On, an affluent tech executive (Abraham) forms an unlikely bond with his employee (Barnadeth), a girl next door struggling to make ends meet. A relationship that starts off as transactional with no strings attached eventually turns into so much more when they both discover their true feelings enabling them to be free from traumas of the past.

Vidio has also greenlit the Wattpad story Live with My Ketos (16.8 million reads) for production. Principal photography for the eight-episode series will start in early 2021 and be released immediately after. In the story, rebellious Gabriella finally meets with her match when she crosses paths with Alvaro. After a rocky first encounter, Gabriella hates Alvaro with a passion, but her feelings grow when they find themselves stuck together. After a series of stops and starts, the pair end up in an arranged engagement, deepening their connection while increasing the chance for heartbreak and disappointment. Things seem to be OK until Gabriella discovers Alvaro still has feelings for his ex-girlfriend Vava.

Paradise Garden (nearly 800,000 reads) has also been greenlit, with plans for a 2021 release as well. Paradise Garden follows Vya and Andra who are both connected with a mission to find their siblings that recently disappear. Determined to investigate on their own, the mystery starts to build and unravel when they move into Paradise Garden—an elite housing complex in Jakarta—and start experiencing strange occurrences. The screen adaptation is written by Tommy Dewo, Agasyah Karim and Khalid Kashogi.
