New Mindy Kaling Show Gets Series Order at Netflix

Netflix has ordered a new coming-of-age comedy series from The Mindy Project creator and star Mindy Kaling.

The semi-autobiographical series, which will follow the complicated life of a first generation Indian American teenage girl in modern-day America, has been given a 10-episode order at the streaming giant. Co-creators Kaling and Lang Fisher (The Mindy Project, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) will serve as showrunners, executive producers and writers on the project. Howard Klein and David Miner will also executive produce.

Kaling, who recently left Universal TV after signing a pact with Warner Bros., recently premiered her feature Late Night at the Sundance Film Festival. The movie, which was acquired by Amazon Studios and stars Kaling alongside Emma Thompson’s beleaguered late-night host, is slated to premiere in June.
