Mexican Celebrity Big Brother Leads June Wit List

La Casa de los Famosos México, a local adaptation of the reality competition La Casa de los Famosos that aired on Telemundo, generated the most buzz on Instagram out of all the new series that debuted in June, according to The WIT.

The Mexican adaptation sees a group of 14 celebrities live together under constant surveillance by cameras, completely isolated from the outside world. It earned 938,000 followers after its June 4 debut on Las Estrellas, boosted by the followings of its hosts: Galilea Montijo (10.3 million) and Diego de Erice (405,000).

HBO’s The Idol racked up 508,000 followers to take second place. Starring and written by Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd (61.4 million followers) and co-starring Lily-Rose Depp (8.1 million), the drama series tells the story of a singer determined to be the greatest and sexiest pop star in America, whose passions are reignited by a nightclub impresario with a sordid past.

In third place with 263,000 followers, the Chilean magazine show Claudia ConVersa sees presenter Claudia Conserva address different topics in order to find ways to improve their quality of life. Conserva has 1 million followers of her own.

Another Chilean show took fourth place, with Chilevisión’s Gran Hermano picking up 113,000 followers after its debut on June 18. The local adaptation of Big Brother follows as 18 participants, who have never met before, live together for several days in a house, totally cut off from the outside world. It is hosted by Diana Bolocco and Julio César Rodríguez, who have 1.7 million and 1.4 million followers, respectively.

Drag Race México, which airs on MTV and Paramount+ in Latin America, scored 109,000 followers to round out the top five. The Mexican adaptation of RuPaul’s Drag Race, hosted by drag queens Valentina (1.4 million followers) and Lolita Banana (88,300), sees 11 outrageous drag queens face off for the title of the “Next Drag Superstar.”

The South Korean show R U Next?, in which candidates face off in seven rounds of artistic challenges to win a spot in a new girl band produced by the talent agency HYBE, landed in sixth place. It earned 102,000 followers after its June 30 debut, aided by the star power of its host and coaches. Choi Soo-young (7.6 million followers) serves as its host, while the team of coaches includes Aiki (1.7 million), Kim Jae-hwan (1.7 million) and Jo Kwon (1.2 million).

The seventh spot went to TRT1’s Kendi Düşen Ağlamaz (Come What May), which picked up 80,000 followers. The Turkish drama series, based on the book by Ayşegül Çiçekoğlu, stars Eylül Tumbar (238,000 followers) and Enes Koçak (183,000). It follows the love story between the spoiled and beautiful Alize and the rude but handsome mechanic Serkan.

Disney+’s Secret Invasion, based on the 2008 Marvel comic books crossover of the same name, racked up 51,000 followers. Starring Emilia Clarke (28 million), Samuel L. Jackson (8.2 million) and Cobie Smulders (2.1 million), the sci-fi series is about a subversive, long-term invasion of Earth by the Skrulls, a group of alien shapeshifters who have secretly replaced superheroes with impostors.

Cinta Tanpa Karena, an Indonesian drama series starring Amanda Manopo, Ochi Rosdiana and Della Puspita, came in ninth place with 41,000 followers. The RCTI drama chronicles the love story between Dipta and Nuna, who wish to marry but don’t have the blessing of their parents. Manopo has 15.2 million followers of her own, while Rosdiana and Puspita have 5.1 million and 479,000, respectively.

Rounding out June’s list, Tierra de esperanza (Land of Hope) scored 24,000 followers after its premiere on Mexico’s Las Estrellas. The local adaptation of the Telemundo telenovela La tormenta stars Carolina Miranda (1.6 million followers), Mariana Seoane (1.6 million), Sofia Castro (1.2 million) and Andrés Palacios (821,000).
