FilmRise has launched an initiative to use AI, combined with the expertise of its in-house editorial team, to convert standard-definition content to high definition.
The company began utilizing the AI-assisted in-house initiative by enhancing the true-crime series Forensic Files, which it distributes through a long-term agreement with Content Partners. It has remastered 12 seasons of the series in high definition.
In addition to initiatives like the one utilized for Forensic Files, FilmRise will continue to use a full range of ways to enhance its library of 30,000 movies and TV episodes for standard definition to high definition opportunities.
Danny Fisher, CEO of FilmRise, stated, “This new initiative embodies FilmRise’s core mission to enhance the viewer experience for both our audiences and our streaming partners. We are committed to continually improving the quality of the programs we acquire and distribute, catering to both consumer audiences and our streaming partners.”
“At Content Partners, we are committed to preserving and enhancing the legacy of iconic film and television content, and FilmRise has been an invaluable partner in that mission,” commented Scott Hemming, executive VP at Content Partners. “Their innovative approach to AI-driven restoration ensures that Forensic Files continues to captivate audiences in the best possible quality, providing an improved viewing experience while staying true to the integrity of the series. We are thrilled to see Forensic Files reach new heights with this initiative and look forward to continuing our successful collaboration with FilmRise.”
Thibault Hermenault, CTO of FilmRise, added, “The new AI tools available are incredibly exciting and enable us to bring the restoration process in-house. Our hybrid process allows us to upconvert older content quicker and cost-effectively without losing the human touch, ensuring that audiences can truly appreciate the difference. In addition to the enhanced picture quality for the end user, this is a real value add for our streaming partners as well as our content partners.”
