Nominations in for Gemini Awards

TORONTO, August 26: The
Academy of Canadian Cinema Television has unveiled the nominations for the 23rd
Annual Gemini Awards, with dramas such as Murdoch Mysteries and The Tudors leading the pack.

Murdoch Mysteries scored the most nominations, 14, followed by Durham
County with 13 and The Tudors with 12. These shows will face off with Intelligence and The Border in the category for best dramatic series. The
Englishman’s Boy also secured 12
nods, and will look for the win over Across the River to Motor City, which received seven nominations, and Would Be Kings, with eight noms, in the dramatic mini-series category. Also
receiving eight nominations is Mayerthorpe, which will compete against A Life Interrupted, Luna: Spirit of the Whale, Sticks and Stones and Victor: The Victor Davis Story in the category of best TV movie.

The news information
series the fifth estate received
11 nominations, while The Border and
CBC News: The National tied
with nine nods. Marketplace, ReGenesis, Rent-A-Goalie and Cowboy Junkies: Trinity Revisited each brought in six nominations.

"This was a banner
year for Canadian television," said Sara Morton, the CEO of the Academy of
Canadian Cinema Television. "The nominees announced today truly exemplify
the depth and breadth of our country's talent, both in front of and behind the
camera. Featuring newcomers and returning favorites, this year's field of
nominees has engaged and entertained audiences in Canada and beyond."

The awards, which honor
the best in Canadian English-language television, will be presented in Toronto,
Ontario, on November 28, and aired on E! Network and Showcase in Canada.
