SPTI to Distribute Chinese Basketball Movie

HONG KONG, August
13: Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) has acquired the television,
digital and mobile distribution rights in the Asia Pacific for Crimson Forest
Film’s award-winning Chinese feature Slam.

Set in Beijing, Slam is a coming-of-age story about three
teenage boys who try to win a three-on-three basketball tournament and a cash
prize to pay off a debt. The film, directed by Jonathan Lim, features an original Chinese hip-hop
soundtrack and members of Beijing’s professional basketball team Bayi.

Ross Pollack, the senior VP
of distribution for Asia at SPTI, said: “Slam paints
a vivid portrait of teen life in Asia today. With the increased attention on
sports in China this Olympics year and the rapidly growing popularity of
basketball in Asia, we feel this movie will work well for television and new
media content buyers looking to connect with the youth demo of today in a very
authentic way. This acquisition is part of SPTI’s Asia Hollywood Studio
strategy, as we continue to look for high-quality content in Asia, be they
star-driven vehicles or independent films representing unique voices from Asia
like Slam.”
