The world’s first program of 8K content screenings is set to take place at MIPTV 2019 in the Palais des Festivals this April.

NHK will screen segments from their Two Hour Tour series, The Palais of Versailles (a co-production with Château of Versailles) and a digitally-remastered 8K version of My Fair Lady. France’s Paramax Films will screen a musical tribute to Michel Legrand and a new film tentatively titled Music Hole. K2 Studios from the U.S. will present Volcanoes and Rocky Mountain Express in 8K.  Japanese broadcaster WOWOW will show clips from locally produced versions of Cold Case in 8K. Italy’s Magnitudo Film will also present 8K footage.

Director and cinematographer Peter Chang will showcase Cuba (8K UHD), which was shot for BBC Earth and Giant Screen Films and San Francisco Flow. Saint Thomas Productions—back from filming the eruption of Anak Krakatoa—is set to present, as is NASA TV, which will screen 8K footage captured from the International Space Station. Kansai-TV will screen their 8K drama To Make.

When the 8K screenings are held at MIPTV on Tuesday, April 8, it will mark the first time that such a collection of 8K footage has been assembled. MIPTV takes place in Cannes, France from April 8 to 11. CANNESERIES runs in the city from April 5 to 10.
