Vulcan Productions & Cinelan Team for Short Film Series

NEW YORK/SEATTLE: Paul G. Allen's Vulcan Productions and Morgan Spurlock's Cinelan are collaborating on the production and distribution of 20 short films focused on the U.S. economy.

The films are meant to help viewers better understand America's economic policies. They will feature commentary from such financial experts as John Steele Gordon, author of An Empire of Wealth, and Dean Baker, co-founder of the Center for Economic and Policy Research. Contributing filmmakers include Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), Mary Harron (American Psycho), Akiva Goldsman (Winter's Tale), Spurlock (Super Size Me) and Jessica Yu (Grey's Anatomy).

A multiplatform simultaneous premiere is slated for the fall. Day-and-date distribution will include online, VOD, broadcast and mobile. A related educational curriculum will be provided to schools around the country in conjunction with the release of the film series, which will be promoted with a cross-platform marketing campaign, social media, as well as major market press, festival and university screenings.

Carole Tomko, the creative director and general manager of Vulcan Productions, stated: "We are delighted to be partnering with Morgan Spurlock and his team at Cinelan on a project of such substance. These films will educate, inform and entertain audiences on the fundamentals of the U.S. economy, connecting everyday experiences to larger realities for millions of viewers."

Morgan Spurlock, executive producer and co-founder of Cinelan, added: "We're thrilled to partner with Vulcan Productions, this incredibly talented group of directors, and several top economic minds to create accessible, impactful short films that not only break down the subject matter in a more digestible format, but also share the unique human stories behind the inner workings of the economy. It's an important opportunity to create something that will have a lasting footprint."
