TV Production in L.A. Up 31 Percent

LOS ANGELES: On-location TV production in Los Angeles increased 31.1 percent in Q3 compared to the prior year, with dramas being a particularly strong segment of business.

According to FilmL.A., nearly all TV categories posted gains in the third quarter. TV dramas increased 43.2 percent, reality rose 49.2 percent and web-based TV went up 12.3 percent. TV pilot production gained 40.8 percent. TV sitcoms, which represent the smallest portion of the filming, dipped 29 percent for the quarter.

California's current film incentive contributed to the local TV drama numbers. Last quarter, the state-qualified projects in L.A. included Rizzoli & Isles, Pretty Little Liars, Major Crimes, Perception and Legends.

“While we are still trying to reclaim our share of television production, we’re encouraged by dramatic television producers’ interest in filming in Los Angeles,” said FilmL.A.'s president, Paul Audley. “With the new tax credit taking effect next July, we see strong potential for growth in local TV work ahead.”
