The Middle Scores Season Nine Renewal on ABC

BURBANK: ABC has ordered a ninth installment of the hit comedy series The Middle, a Warner Bros. Television production created and executive produced by Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline.

The Middle centers on the Hecks, an average, middle-class family living in Indiana. The show, which debuted in 2009, stars Emmy winner Patricia Heaton as Frankie, Neil Flynn as Mike, Charlie McDermott as Axl, Eden Sher as Sue and Atticus Shaffer as Brick. It is currently airing in its eighth season on Tuesdays at 8 p.m.

The Middle has been one of the network’s most consistent performers and helped us to launch a whole new night of comedy when it moved to Tuesdays this season,” said Channing Dungey, the president of ABC Entertainment. “The Indiana Hecks have found America’s sweet spot with their authentic, acerbic and always loving take on parenting, work, kids, marriage and life.”
