The CW Shuffles Schedule, Adds Five New Dramas

NEW YORK: The CW has shaken up its fall schedule, moving returning shows to new nights and adding a number of new dramas and originals.

Mondays will see the pairing of the returning hits Hart of Dixie and Beauty and the Beast. Tuesday features the all-new Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals, leading into the returning drama Supernatural.

On Wednesday nights, the action drama Arrow leads in the 8 p.m. time slot, staying in place. It is followed by the new action-adventure The Tomorrow People, which stars Robbie Amell as a young man with abilities he is only beginning to understand.

The Vampire Diaries holds on to its Thursday 8 p.m. time slot. It will serve as a lead in to the new series Reign, starring Adelaide Kane as the young Mary, Queen of Scots.

Fridays see The Carrie Diaries moving to a new night, kicking things off at 8 p.m. America’s Next Top Model wraps up the night in the 9 p.m. hour.

For midseason, The CW has ordered the dramas Star-Crossed and The 100. Also for midseason is the new reality show Famous in 12. Though an official date has not yet been announced, the network confirmed that Nikita will return, with a final six-episode run.

"We had a terrific season last year, growing our audience on-air, digitally and socially. Now we are building on that success by continuing to add more original programming all year long, and by adding high-concept, exciting shows to our schedule that will help us continue our mission of broadening out our 18- to 34-year old audience," said Mark Pedowitz, the president of The CW. "Arrow was one of the breakout hits of this season, and we’re using that show and The Vampire Diaries, our two highest-rated series, to launch our new dramas The Tomorrow People and Reign, on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

"Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah, the original family of vampires, have become fan favorites over the past three seasons on The Vampire Diaries, and we know viewers will be excited to see more of their story in their new spin-off series, The Originals, on Tuesday nights. And with Star-Crossed and The 100 set for midseason, The CW is poised to keep growing and keep our momentum going."
