NEW YORK: Showtime has picked up the Cameron Crowe comedy Roadies, with J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot producing.

Crowe, the filmmaker behind movies such as Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous, wrote and directed the pilot. The show follows life on the road for the crew tasked with mounting a rock band’s tour. Crowe is executive producing with Winnie Holzman (My So-Called Life).

“I've long wanted to work with J.J. and Winnie, and coming together to tell these stories has been beyond a blast,” Crowe said. “Showtime has a great track record with music-based projects, and they’ve been wonderful partners.”
