OWN Unveils New Tyler Perry Comedy The Paynes

LOS ANGELES: OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network has placed a 38-episode order for the new Tyler Perry comedy series The Paynes, which is a spin-off of House of Payne.

Starring LaVan Davis and Cassi Davis, The Paynes follows Curtis and Ella as they try to enjoy their retirement in Florida, where they get sucked into a real-estate deal that changes their lives. The show is written, directed and produced by Perry. It has kicked off production at the new Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta for broadcast in 2018.

OWN has also ordered 44 more episodes of Perry’s hit drama The Haves and the Have Nots, as well as 18 episodes of If Loving You Is Wrong.

In addition, the channel announced the final seasons of Perry’s comedy series Love Thy Neighbor and For Better or Worse, which are both moving to Saturday nights. The former will debut its fourth season on March 4, while the latter will premiere its sixth season on June 10. Both shows will air throughout 2017 with 22 and 20 episodes, respectively.

“Tyler has been an incredible collaborator, a great partner and has an unprecedented track record of success with his hit scripted series,” said Erik Logan, the president of OWN. “Tyler’s shows are must-see TV for his loyal audience and we are excited to offer up a brand-new comedy and more episodes of their favorite Tyler dramas on OWN. We also would like to thank the entire casts of both Love Thy Neighbor and For Better or Worse who have given us loads of laughs over the years. Both series have had great runs and we appreciate everyone’s hard work and dedication.”
