BURBANK: Industry veteran Jamila Hunter has been elevated to the post of senior VP of ABC Comedy at ABC Entertainment.

In her new role, Hunter will manage ABC’s comedy department. She will be charged with overseeing the development and production of all comedy pilots for ABC Entertainment.

Hunter will report to Channing Dungey, the president of ABC Entertainment, who commented, “As one of our industry’s most accomplished executives, Jamila has been instrumental in ABC’s comedy resurgence. She brings a unique perspective to this important role, and I’m thrilled to have her leading our efforts.”

Hunter added: “I’m honored to join Channing’s senior leadership team. Over the years our network has built a strong comedy brand featuring unique, culturally relevant shows. I’m excited by this new opportunity and am looking forward to working with my talented colleagues at ABC as we continue this tradition.”

Hunter was named VP of ABC Comedy in 2011. In that role, she oversaw the development and production of new sitcoms, working on projects ranging from the Emmy-nominated and Peabody Award-winning series black-ish, as well as Fresh Off the Boat and The Real O’Neals. Multiplatform comedy development was added to Hunter’s scope of responsibility in October 2015.
