New Kids on the Block’s Joey McIntyre to Star in Comedy Series for Pop

LOS ANGELES: New Kids on the Block’s Joey McIntyre is fronting a new scripted comedy series for Pop from Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy.

The Joey Mac Project (working title) will begin production this fall. The Pop original series is inspired by McIntyre’s life as a grownup boy-band member and actor who is seeking his next gig following New Kids on the Block’s latest tour. McIntyre stars as a 43-year-old father of three who wants to be taken seriously as an actor.

The eight-episode series is executive produced by McIntyre, Wahlberg, McCarthy, Tim Gibbons (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Paul Greenberg (Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris) and Jenny Daly (Storage Hunters, Hollywood and Football). The Joey Mac Project is produced by T Group Productions.

McIntyre commented: “I lucked out. What are the chances of me being cast as a character named Joey McIntyre? But in all seriousness, if you love to laugh, we have a comedy-gold team behind this project who has the secret sauce for funny TV…. Yes, I just said that.”

“I’ve worked with Joey since we were kids,” said Wahlberg. “But seeing all of his many talents come together in this show, I’ve never been more excited.”

Pop is a joint venture of CBS Corporation and Lionsgate.
