NEW YORK: Van Toffler, the president of Viacom's music and Logo group, has announced his departure from the network, where he's worked for nearly 28 years.

Toffler began his tenure at MTV in the business department in 1987. Since then, he has risen to a post that sees him supervising MTV, MTV2, VH1, VH1 Classic, CMT and Logo. Toffler plans to leave in April, but will continue to assist in the production of certain events, including the MTV Music Video Awards.

"To be clear, this is a very personal decision about pursuing the loud and insatiable part of my failed musician/poet soul that needs to purely make great stuff," Toffler said in a note to MTV staff.
