MIPTV Spotlight: CBS Studios International

CBS Studios International is presenting a wide variety of offerings at this year’s MIPTV, including action series Blood & Treasure.

At the center of the show’s plot are a brilliant antiquities expert and a cunning art thief, who team up to catch a ruthless terrorist funding his attacks through stolen treasure. The CBS series is “fun, sexy and full of action—great summer viewing and a story with a complete in-season arc,” says Barry Chamberlain, the president of sales at CBS Studios International.

The Code is described as a classic CBS procedural, “a mix of hit series like NCIS and JAG,” Chamberlain says. He continues, “Finally, we couldn’t be more pleased with Jordan Peele and Simon Kinberg’s modern reimagining of the iconic The Twilight Zone for CBS All Access. With a recognizable and marketable brand and great guest stars, this anthology series is sure to resonate with viewers around the world.”

Chamberlain adds: “While the industry is going through a transition, CBS and Showtime remain super focused on creating the best content for a global audience.”

Alan Cumming and Bojana Novakovic star in Instinct, which launched mid-season on CBS in the U.S.

The show is a “classic network procedural with broad appeal,” says Barry Chamberlain, CBS Studios International’s president of sales. “Cumming and Novakovic’s characters engage in witty dialogue and are a pair who will never get together romantically,” as Cumming’s character is gay.

Also a CBS series, SEAL Team, which launched this past fall, “is a real hit in the U.S., and international viewers are catching on as well,” Chamberlain says. “The broad appeal of SEAL Team lands squarely with David Boreanaz, a proven television star.”

Strange Angel is the next original series that is being produced for CBS All Access. It deals with the early days of modern rocketry.

Chamberlain adds, “We remain committed to providing the best television content—including premium series from Showtime, CBS All Access and broadly popular series from CBS—across all platforms.”

CANNES: Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel of the same name, Under the Dome was given a straight-to-series order for 13 episodes by CBS.

Barry Chamberlain, the executive VP of sales at CBS Studios International, says the show is “going to be one of those rare event television series that people will talk about.” King & Maxwell marks the first cable project from Shane Brennan (NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles). Chamberlain says that it “offers international channels a very watchable series with a great cast, a new case every week and the type of exciting action you can expect from the executive producer of NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles.” Liev Schrieber stars in Ray Donovan, a new drama for Showtime that “hits all the right marks for distinctive and premium content that worldwide platforms are seeking,” Chamberlain says.
