NEW YORK: Jon Slusser, who currently manages Spike's sports division, has become the network's senior VP of sports and specials, adding live specials and events to his existing duties.

In his newly expanded role, Slusser will continue to work under Kevin Kay, the president of Spike. He will oversee the annual Guys Choice awards show, as well as One Night Only and the new Rock the Troops event, which will premiere next year on Veteran's Day. He is also expected to create new live multiplatform events for the network.

Slusser has contributed to the development of Bellator MMA, which has become a global sports franchise since its launch on Spike in 2013. He has also overseen the network's coverage of Premier Boxing Champions and Glory kickboxing, and helped to successfully brand Friday Night Lights Out earlier this year, among other accomplishments.

Slusser's previous positions include senior VP of sports, senior VP of Spike Digital Entertainment and executive producer. He began working for MTV Networks in 2006 when GameTrailers.com, a video website he founded, was acquired by Viacom.
