Fargo Leads Critics’ Choice Awards TV Nominees

LOS ANGELES: The nominees for the Critics’ Choice Awards have been announced, with Fargo leading on the series side with eight nominations.

ABC, HBO and FX led for networks with 14 nominations each, followed by FOX with 12. As for streaming services, Amazon landed eight nods and Netflix scored five.

Because of the new combined Critics’ Choice Awards format, only TV shows airing primarily within the seven months from June 1 to December 31 were eligible for nomination.

The nominees for best drama series are Empire, Mr. Robot, Penny Dreadful, Rectify, The Knick, The Leftovers and UnREAL. On the performance side, the best actor nods for TV drama went to Hugh Dancy for Hannibal, Rami Malek for Mr. Robot, Clive Owen for The Knick, Liev Schreiber for Ray Donovan, Justin Theroux for The Leftovers and Aden Young for Rectify. The nominees for best actress in the same category are Shiri Appleby for UnREAL, Carrie Coon for The Leftovers, Viola Davis for How to Get Away With Murder, Eva Green for Penny Dreadful, Taraji P. Henson for Empire and Krysten Ritter for Jessica Jones.

The series nominated for best comedy are Black-ish, Catastrophe, Jane the Virgin, Master of None, The Last Man on Earth, Transparent and You’re the Worst. The best actor in a TV comedy nominees are Anthony Anderson for Black-ish, Aziz Ansari for Master of None, Will Forte for The Last Man on Earth, Randall Park for Fresh Off the Boat, Fred Savage for The Grinder and Jeffrey Tambor for Transparent. In the best actress category, comedy series nods went to Rachel Bloom for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Aya Cash for You’re the Worst, Wendi McLendon-Covey for The Goldbergs, Gina Rodriguez for Jane the Virgin, Tracee Ellis Ross for Black-ish and Constance Wu for Fresh Off the Boat.

In the best movie made for TV or limited series arena, Fargo is nominated alongside Luther, Saints & Strangers, Show Me a Hero, Childhood’s End and The Wiz Live! The best actor nominees for this category are Wes Bentley for American Horror Story: Hotel, Martin Clunes for Arthur & George, Idris Elba for Luther, Oscar Isaac for Show Me a Hero, Vincent Kartheiser for Saints & Strangers and Patrick Wilson for Fargo. Up for best actress in this category are American Horror Story: Hotel‘s Kathy Bates, Fargo‘s Kirsten Dunst, Flesh and Bone‘s Sarah Hay, Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors‘ Alyvia Alyn Lind, True Detective‘s Rachel McAdams and The Wiz Live!‘s Shanice Williams.

Bob’s Burgers, BoJack Horseman, South Park, Star Wars Rebels and The Simpsons are all nominated for best animation series. The category for best reality competition series features Chopped, Face Off, MasterChef Junior, Survivor, The Amazing Race and The Voice. In the category for best structured reality show are Antiques Roadshow, Inside the Actors Studio, MythBusters, Project Greenlight, Shark Tank and Undercover Boss. The nominees for best unstructured reality show are Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Cops, Deadliest Catch, Intervention, Naked and Afraid and Pawn Stars. Those up for best reality show host are Ted Allen of Chopped, Phil Keoghan for The Amazing Race, James Lipton for Inside the Actors Studio, Jane Lynch for Hollywood Game Night, Survivor‘s Jeff Probst and Gordon Ramsay for Hell’s Kitchen.

The Critics’ Choice Awards are voted by members of the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA). The awards will be presented at 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, 2016. They will broadcast live on A&E, Lifetime and LMN.
