LONDON: Hulu has acquired the exclusive U.S. SVOD rights for the first two seasons of the comedy series Plebs from DRG.

Set in Ancient Rome, the Rise Films-produced series centers on Marcus (Tom Rosenthal), Stylax (Joel Fry) and Grumio (Ryan Sampson). These desperate young men must navigate women, careers and friendship as they attempt to climb the social ladder. The coming-of-age sitcom, which is now in production on its third season, has been a hit on ITV2 and has received several awards, including a British Comedy Award, Broadcast Award and a Royal Television Society Award.

The deal also sees Hulu pick up the rights to the comedies The Delivery Man and Detectorists.

Scott Kirkpatrick, the senior VP of sales for North America at DRG, stated: “Hulu is an ideal platform for Plebs; they’re a game changer in terms of understanding where the market is going [and] how smart and engaged audiences discover new programs. I cannot wait to see this brilliant coming-of-age series introduced to a U.S. audience and look forward to seeing more DRG scripted content on the platform in the future.”
