Expanded Programming Role for Garrett English at MTV, VH1 & Logo

January 27, 2017 Sara Alessi Top Stories

NEW YORK: Garrett English has been promoted to the expanded role of executive VP of event programming, specials and news for MTV, VH1 and Logo.

In his new role, English will be responsible for directing the creative development and management for all of the networks’ tent poles, live events and specials. In addition, he will add oversight of MTV News to his purview. English will report to Amy Doyle, the general manager of MTV, VH1 and Logo. Most recently, English served as the senior VP of programming, events and live production for MTV.

English joined MTV’s news and documentaries division in 1995 before being promoted to its music/specials/events unit. In 2001, he moved to the U.K. to join the MTV Networks International team, where he took on the role of head of production and operations for MTV Networks International and MTV Networks Europe. Since 2004, English has served as the lead development and production executive for all of MTV’s tent-pole programs, initiatives and special events, including the MTV Movie Awards and MTV Video Music Awards, among others. Most recently, he spearheaded the launch of MTV Documentary Films.

“Garrett has been indispensable at the helm of nearly every MTV live production for more than a decade, and this new, broader role will make excellent use of his versatility and experience across multiple forms of content,” said Doyle. “There is no better leader to bring to life the world-class programming and events fans expect from our brands.”

“I’m excited to bring the talented teams at MTV, VH1 and Logo together to serve our audiences with must-see live-event programming and specials,” said English. “I’m also honored to come full circle to MTV News, which is the place I first called home here, and take the mantle of this iconic brand. MTV News has always been a place for a robust dialogue with our audience and there has never been a more critical time to address the issues that shape their lives.”
