NEW YORK: Sony Pictures Television has licensed the off-network rights for the NBC comedy Community to Comedy Central.

The comedy returns to NBC with all-new episodes tonight at 8 p.m. The show heads to Comedy Central in fall 2013, with all three seasons set to air.

"Within the chaos of the current media landscape we are fortunate that we live in a timeline where Community comes to Comedy Central," said David Bernath, the executive VP of program strategy and multiplatform programming at Comedy Central. "Our staff is celebrating with a game of paintball in the offices today."

"Community is a perfect fit for the Comedy Central audience," added John Weiser, the president of U.S. distribution for Sony Pictures Television.
