SEATTLE: Adding to a roster that includes the Golden Globe winner Transparent and the comedy Mozart in the Jungle, Amazon Studios has lined up the new original series Catastrophe.

The half-hour comedy will be available exclusively on Prime Instant Video; it launches in the U.S. this spring and will come to the U.K. later this year. Catastrophe is written by U.S. comedian and best-selling author Rob Delaney and actress Sharon Horgan. The series is set in London and is about an Irish woman and American man who are trying to start a relationship after clumsy lust leads to pregnancy. The show is an Avalon Television production with co-producers Birdbath Productions and Merman.

“Rob and Sharon have created an engaging, contemporary, funny and moving story,” said Roy Price, the VP of Amazon Studios. “We are excited to bring Catastrophe exclusively to our Amazon Prime customers and can’t wait to hear what they think of the series.”

“We are delighted to be working with Amazon Studios, whose programming is rapidly proving to be some of the most original television currently being produced,” said Jon Thoday, joint managing director of Avalon Television.
