Adult Swim Serves Up Eight New Originals

NEW YORK: Adult Swim has scheduled eight new original series and specials for the season to come, alongside bringing back 16 shows.

New for the network are Rick and Morty, from Dan Harmon (Community) and Justin Roiland. The animated half-hour comedy is about a genius inventor grandfather and his less-than-genius grandson. Mr Pickles, also animated, is about a loveable border collie who has a secret satanic streak. The comedy Mike Tyson Mysteries features an animated Mike Tyson solving mysteries with his sidekick talking pigeon. The series incorporates live-action appearances by Tyson himself. The show comes from Warner Bros. Animation.

King Star King features a punk rock, modern-day he-man who falls from the realm of the gods to land as a fry cook in a slummy waffle house. Artist JJ Villard (Monsters Vs. Aliens) is behind the show. Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell is a live-action workplace comedy about an associate demon who attempts to capture souls on earth in order to climb the corporate ladder of the underworld. Premiere episodes are currently being presented on Thursday nights at midnight on Adult Swim. There’s also Robot Chicken DC Comics Special II, Metalocalpyse: The Doom Star Requiem and Hot Package, which is a fictional Canadian entertainment news program.

Adult Swim also made nine pilot orders. This includes two live-action pilots from The Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder and Tim & Eric’s Bedtime Stories: Zach’s Haunted House, with Zach Galifianakis. Hole to Hole, Filthy Sexy Teen$, Team Unicorn, Übermansion and Untitled Cruise Ship Project also made the list.

Among the returning series for Adult Swim are Childrens Hospital, Robot Chicken, Black Dynamite and The Eric Andre Show. The network also recently acquired the rights to air Bob’s Burgers, which joins other acquired shows such as American Dad, Family Guy, King of the Hill and Bleach.

“As Adult Swim continues to grow and be the place for great comedic talent as well as surprising and unexpected content, it is important that we expand its development of original programs so that we can build on its success even more,” said Stuart Snyder, the president and COO of Turner’s Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media Group. “The record ratings the network is experiencing this year is a testament to the great work being done by all the wonderfully talented people at Adult Swim.”

“Adult Swim has emerged as a leading entertainment network in key sales demos and should be part of every advertiser’s consideration set during the Upfront,” added Donna Speciale, the president of Turner Entertainment and Young Adults Ad Sales. “The network has a distinct relationship with its loyal and engaged audience and targeted reach across television, events, digital and promotions, all of which advertisers have the opportunity to benefit through a wide variety of creative activations.”
