ABC Sets Little Mermaid Live, Generation Gap Game Show

Jimmy Kimmel has new programming coming to ABC, including working with Mark Burnett on the game show Generation Gap, while the network also revealed upcoming highlights such as a live staging of The Little Mermaid.

Kimmel will once again team up with television icon Norman Lear and executive producers Brent Miller, Will Ferrell and Justin Theroux to provide the next installment of Live in Front of a Studio Audience, with a live holiday special event coming this winter. A third Live in Front of a Studio Audience special will air in spring 2020.

Kimmel will partner with Emmy Award-winning producer Mark Burnett to executive produce Generation Gap, a new game show coming to ABC. The comedy quiz show groups family members of different generations, who must work together to answer questions about each other’s generations.

To honor the 30th anniversary of the beloved Disney film The Little Mermaid, The Wonderful World of Disney and ABC are presenting a live musical event: The Wonderful World of Disney presents The Little Mermaid Live! will air on November 5 at 8 p.m., featuring Auli’i Cravalho (Disney’s Moana) as Ariel, alongside Queen Latifah as Ursula and Shaggy as Sebastian.

ABC has secured the rights to Mitchell Zuckoff’s bestselling book Fall and Rise: The Story of 9/11. Commemorating the 20th anniversary of the events of September 11, the network will develop a limited series, produced by Lionsgate and 3 Arts Entertainment.

The network is also developing the anthology series Women of the Movement (working title). The series is a chronology of the civil rights movement as told from a black woman’s point of view, with the first season centered on Mamie Till, who devoted her life to seeking justice in her son Emmett’s name following his murder in the Jim Crow South. The first season of the anthology is inspired by the book Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement by Devery S. Anderson.
