ABC Renews black-ish, Orders mixed-ish Spin-Off

The ABC Television Network has picked up black-ish for a sixth season and has given an early series order to the show’s brand-new spin-off, mixed-ish.

Over the course of its run, black-ish has received a Peabody Award, numerous NAACP Image Awards and several Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. The series, which centers on the Johnson family, stars Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Laurence Fishburne, Yara Shahidi, Marcus Scribner, Miles Brown, Marsai Martin, Jenifer Lewis, Peter Mackenzie and Deon Cole. Created by Kenya Barris, black-ish is produced by ABC Studios.

Following the success of its grown-ish spin-off starring Shahidi, black-ish has spawned a second spin-off in mixed-ish, which will center on Rainbow Johnson’s experience growing up in a mixed-race family in the ’80s. Playing the younger version of Ellis Ross’ black-ish character in the new series is Arica Himmel. Tika Sumpter, Christina Anthony, Mykal-Michelle Harris and Ethan Childress will also star in mixed-ish.
