ABC Family Goes for New Original Shows

BURBANK: ABC Family has added two new half-hour comedy series, Mystery Girls and Young & Hungry, to its original programming lineup.

Mystery Girls stars Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth, who also serve as executive producers. The show centers on two former television detectives who are reunited when a witness to a crime insists on speaking to them.

The cast of Young & Hungry, executive produced by Ashley Tisdale, is led by Emily Osment. The program is about a food blogger who becomes a personal chef for a rich entrepreneur.

Both shows are set to be filmed in Los Angeles. They will debut this year.

Tom Ascheim, the president of ABC Family, remarked: "It's great to start the new year and my tenure at ABC Family with the pickup of these two funny original series. ABC Family's comedy lineup continues to resonate with our audience and I'm thrilled to boost that momentum by adding Mystery Girls and Young & Hungry, which are sure to become fan favorites."

"We are excited to expand our comedy brand with two new series that build on our already solid comedy block of hits, Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy," added Kate Juergens, the chief creative officer and executive VP of programming and development for ABC Family. "Viewers are excited to see Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth back on television together again, and will fall in love with Young & Hungry star Emily Osment in these comedies that bring us fun, new characters with which to laugh out loud."
