FX Sets Impeachment: American Crime Story, Nonfiction Slate & Renewals

FX has renewed Atlanta and Snowfall, along with revealing another installment of its American Crime Story franchise and an expanded nonfiction slate.

FX’s American Crime Story franchise is slated to return next year with its third installment, Impeachment: American Crime Story, which counts Monica Lewinsky among its producers. Impeachment: American Crime Story will follow the national scandal that swept up Lewinsky, Paula Jones and Linda Tripp as principal characters in the country’s first presidential impeachment proceedings in over a century. Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Sarah Paulson is cast as Tripp, Beanie Feldstein as Lewinsky and Annaleigh Ashford as Jones. The series is set to bow on September 27, 2020.

FX has also lined up a fourth season of its Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning comedy series Atlanta. Production of seasons three and four—eight episodes each—is scheduled to begin next spring. The show is created by Donald Glover, who also stars.

Snowfall has been renewed for a fourth season on FX. The drama series—created by John Singleton, Eric Amadio and Dave Andron—will return in 2020.

The network also revealed five new docuseries and one documentary feature as part of an ongoing expansion into nonfiction programming. Among them, Outlaw: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur is a five-part cinematic TV event exploring two voices, activist Afeni Shakur and hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur, that could not be silenced. It comes from director Allen Hughes (The Defiant Ones).

From Emmy Award-winning producer Marc Smerling (The Jinx) and Blumhouse Television (The Jinx, Sharp Objects) comes the six-part documentary series A Wilderness of Error, based on Errol Morris’s novel of the same name. The story follows as handsome Army surgeon Jeffrey MacDonald is sent to prison for killing his family and a storm of swirling narratives challenges the ability to find the truth, all the while overshadowing the possibility that MacDonald may be an innocent man.

Pride is a six-part doc series from Christine Vachon’s Killer Films and Refinery 29, chronicling the fight for LGBTQ civil rights in America, as seen through the lens of the U.S.’s national history, and the biggest pop culture and political events.

Hip Hop Untold, from EP Malcolm Spellman and Lightbox, is a six-part examination of a dying breed of power brokers who operate from the shadows of hip hop.

Based on the New York Times best-selling book of the same name, The Most Dangerous Animal of All is a four-part documentary series that explores one man’s search for the father who abandoned him, only to uncover that his father may be one of the most infamous serial killers in American history.

The feature-length documentary Women in Comedy, by director Andrea Nevins (Tiny Shoulders: Rethinking Barbie), will examine the changing landscape for women in stand-up through interviews and the examination of their groundbreaking art in the post-MeToo era.
