FOX Orders Cartoon/Live-Action Hybrid Son of Zorn

LOS ANGELES: FOX has greenlit a live-action/animation hybrid series from the creators of The Last Man on Earth, set to debut during the 2016-17 season.

Titled Son of Zorn, the new comedy will be executive produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The series will follow an animated alien warrior voiced by Jason Sudeikis (Saturday Night Live) who tries to reconnect with his live-action ex-wife and son.

Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne (Wilfred) wrote the pilot and will serve as showrunners and executive producers. Seth Cohen will also executive produce, with series director Eric Appel co-executive producing.

“This is utterly unique—there has literally never been a show like this,” said David Madden, the president of entertainment at Fox Broadcasting Company. “And, of course, it is very, very funny. The fantastically talented duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller are yet again delivering precedent-setting television. Jason Sudeikis makes his animated character sound and feel live action, and [co-stars] Cheryl [Hines], Johnny [Pemberton] and Tim [Meadows] have incredible chemistry with him that crosses formats, genres and galaxies.”
