LOS ANGELES: The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has landed the coveted post-Super Bowl slot on CBS on February 7.

This is the first time that a late-night show has been given the plum position after the most-watched sporting event in the U.S. A special edition of Colbert's show will air immediately after Super Bowl 50. Later, a special Super Bowl edition of The Late Late Show with James Corden will air on CBS.

“It’s been a very big year in late night at CBS,” said Glenn Geller, the president of CBS Entertainment. “We’re extremely proud of our two new late-night franchises, and we’re thrilled to give Stephen and James this big Super Bowl Sunday showcase.”

Super Bowl 50 will be CBS's 19th broadcast of the football event. This year the game aired on NBC, delivering more than 114 million viewers, making it the most-watched broadcast in American TV history. It was followed by an episode of The Blacklist.
