Game of Thrones Leads Emmy Noms

LOS ANGELES: For the second year in a row, HBO's Game of Thrones has garnered the most Emmy nominations, with 24 nods, followed by American Horror Story: Freak Show.

By network, HBO scored a whopping 126 nominations, with ABC at a distant second with 42, followed by CBS and NBC with 41 each.

Game of Thrones is facing off in the drama series category with Better Call Saul, Downton Abbey, Homeland, House of Cards, Mad Men and Orange Is the New Black. In the category for comedy series, the contenders are Louie, Modern Family, Parks & Recreation, Silicon Valley, Transparent, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Veep. The nominees for outstanding limited series are American Crime, American Horror Story: Freak Show, Olive Kitteridge, The Honorable Woman and Wolf Hall.

The male nominees for best actor in a TV drama are Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Kevin Spacey (House of Cards), Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom), Kyle Chandler (Bloodline) and Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan). The best actress nominees for drama are Taraji P. Henson (Empire), Viola Davis (How to Get Away With Murder), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Claire Danes (Homeland) and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black).

For comedy, the best actor nominees are Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent), Louis C.K. (Louie), Anthony Anderson (black-ish), William H. Macy (Shameless), Matt LeBlanc (Episodes), Don Cheadle (House of Lies) and Will Forte (Last Man on Earth). The nominees for best female comedic performance are Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep), Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), Lily Tomlin (Grace and Frankie), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Amy Schumer (Inside Amy Schumer) and Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback).

For best actress in a limited series or movie, the nominees are Felicity Huffman (American Crime), Frances McDormand (Olive Kitteridge), Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Honorable Woman), Queen Latifah (Bessie), Jessica Lange (American Horror Story: Freak Show) and Emma Thompson (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street). The best actor contenders in the same category are David Oyelowo (Nightingale), Richard Jenkins (Olive Kitteridge), Timothy Hutton (American Crime), Mark Rylance (Wolf Hall), Ricky Gervais (Derek: The Final Chapter) and Adrien Brody (Houdini).

The shows up for best variety talk series are The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In the category for reality-competition program, The Amazing Race is up against The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance and Top Chef. The variety sketch series nominees are Drunk History, Inside Amy Schumer, Key & Peele, Portlandia and Saturday Night Live. The TV movie contenders are Agatha Christie’s Poirot: Curtain, Poirot’s Last Case, Bessie, Grace of Monaco, Hello Ladies: The Movie, Killing Jesus and Nightingale.

The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on September 20 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Andy Samberg will host the live telecast.
