Video Interview: Scout Productions’ David Collins & Michael Williams

This month marks the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking reality show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. From Scout Productions, the series catapulted queer voices into mainstream pop culture and went on to run for five seasons in its original iteration. In 2018, Netflix rebooted the iconic show, which is currently in its seventh season with 65 episodes available on the platform. The series has spawned iterations and spin-offs, including Queer Eye for the Straight Girl and international versions in Germany, Brazil, France, the U.K., Italy, Belgium, Australia, Spain, Sweden and elsewhere.

Queer Eye marked a beginning for Scout Productions in unscripted programming. Over the past year, the company has launched numerous series and documentaries, including The Secrets of Hillsong on FX, MerPeople on Netflix, Equal on Max and I Love You, You Hate Me on Peacock. David Collins and Michael Williams, co-founders and executive producers, talk to TV Real Weekly about the Queer Eye legacy and what Scout Productions is working on today.
