IMG Producing Lisbon Lions Doc for BBC Scotland

GLASGOW: BBC Scotland has commissioned IMG to produce an hour-long documentary celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Celtic’s European Cup win.

Titled Glasgow ’67: The Lisbon Lions, the doc will tell the story of how the 1967 Celtics became the first British team to win the European Cup. Several members of the famous Celtic team, dubbed the Lisbon Lions, return to the Glasgow streets where they lived in 1967. Team members participating in the documentary include Bertie Auld, Jim Craig, Bobby Lennox, Willie Wallace and John Clarke.

Ewan Angus, the commissioning editor for TV at BBC Scotland, said, “Celtic’s victory in the European Cup in 1967 was a milestone—the first time a British club side had lifted the prestigious trophy. This compelling documentary is a fitting way to mark the anniversary, telling the inside story of a remarkable team and a memorable sporting occasion.”

Alex Gale, co-executive producer at IMG alongside Hazel Irvine, commented, “This is an amazing story with a very special group of players—all bar one, living so close to the ground where they played—and telling the tale of how they won the highest honor in European club football. It will never happen again. The program reveals some great stories from the team, and viewers will get a flavor of how different the game and life was in Glasgow in the mid-’60s.”
