Escapade Media has secured the worldwide rights for Phil Liggett: The Voice of Cycling and the new documentary Breakaway Femmes.

Phil Liggett: The Voice of Cycling, from Melbourne-based Goldynaut Pictures, centers on the amateur racer-turned-professional commentator, who has covered 48 Tours de France and 15 Olympic Games. His name now synonymous with cycling, the documentary considers how much longer Liggett will continue to be the voice of the sport.

Breakaway Femmes centers on the six years during the 1980s when a women’s Tour de France was held alongside the men’s race and the women who raced then ahead of the return of the Tour de France, Femmes in 2022.

Producer Nick Bird said: “We set out to tell the story of a cycling commentator, but what we found was a man whose humanity and passion for the environment was as every bit as important as his sporting expertise.”

Director Eleanor Sharpe added: “The story of the 1980s women’s Tour de France has been criminally neglected for more than 30 years. It will be an absolute privilege to finally give these women the recognition and respect they deserve.”

Natalie Lawley, managing director of Escapade Media, commented: “These are two exceptional documentaries that resonate around the world. Both provide insight into two iconic brands, one being the man, Phil Liggett, and the second one of the most famous races in the world but from a very different perspective. Escapade is delighted to be taking these to the global market.”
