Discovery’s Howard Swartz Joins Arrow Media

LONDON: Arrow Media has appointed Howard Swartz, formerly of Discovery Channel, as executive VP of development and production.

In his new role, Swartz will work out of Arrow Media’s London office. He will collaborate with Tom Brisley and John Smithson, co-founders and joint creative directors, to bolster the company’s U.S. development slate and production output.

Previously, Swartz served as the VP of documentaries and specials at Discovery Channel, where he oversaw such programming as Skywire Live with Nik Wallenda and Shark Week 2015. Earlier in his career, he was an executive producer on PBS’s hit science series Nova at WGBH Boston. He also was an exec producer for Nat Geo’s Explorer, among others shows.

Brisley commented: “As we look to expand our U.S. footprint, Howard’s unrivaled experience and stellar U.S. track record make him the perfect candidate to help Iain, John and I take Arrow to the next level. Together we will build on Arrow’s U.S. strategy and continue to push the boundaries in creating compelling and audacious content.”

Swartz added: “Arrow is one of the most highly respected producers in the non-fiction space. I am thrilled to join Tom, John and Iain, and to play a part in helping Arrow continue to grow as the gold standard for smart and creative programming.”
