Blue Ant International has sold the blue-chip specialist-factual series A Wild Year on Earth to BBC America.

Produced by Northern Pictures and narrated by actor and Downton Abbey star Laura Carmichael, A Wild Year on Earth features footage and stories that illustrate the deep connection between wildlife and the natural environment. BBC America will premiere the six-part docuseries in early 2021 as part of Wonderstruck, the weekly 24-hour destination dedicated to wildlife and natural-history programming.

A Wild Year on Earth was shot in 4K across Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa, North America and South America, providing dramatic viewpoints and revealing how the natural world and its creatures are connected to the Earth’s seasonal patterns—which are becoming more extreme and dangerously unpredictable in the 21st century. The series also charts the rhythms of the human calendar, through ritual and celebration.

A Wild Year on Earth was originally commissioned by Love Nature. Blue Ant International handles international licensing.

Ludo Dufour, senior VP of international co-productions and sales at Blue Ant International, said: “BBC America is the perfect home for this stunning, blue-chip natural history series. The episodes provide multi-faceted viewpoints on wildlife and nature at a time when audiences are more engaged than ever with the future of our natural world.”

Courtney Thomasma, executive director at BBC America, said: “Laura Carmichael leads us on an epic journey through the seasons of our amazing and unpredictable planet. At this unprecedented time, we’ve never been more committed to providing access and promoting connection to our natural world. We look forward to sharing A Wild Year on Earth with U.S. viewers as part of our 24-hour destination for wildlife and wonder, Wonderstruck, in 2021.”
