Abortion Dream Team, a documentary from Paprika Studios Poland and My Way Studios, is set to bow in the U.S. on Viaplay on April 10.
The film centers on the Abortion Dream Team, an informal group of four bold women who run a hotline to help women in need in Poland, where there is a near-total abortion law. The group informs women on how to perform self-managed abortions at home or directs them to clinics abroad.
The activists have gathered a huge following on TikTok, where they talk about facilitating 100 abortions a day and shock people with the slogan “Abortion is OK!” This empowers hundreds of thousands of women while angering all conservatives and the government, and has ultimately lead to the complete burnout of one team member and the political prosecution of another, who is threatened with three years in prison.
The documentary closely follows the four main members of the Abortion Dream Team on the frontlines at demonstrations, press conferences and committee meetings, behind the scenes at the office and at home. This includes Justyna Wydrzyńska, a mother of three who answers the Abortion Without Borders helpline; Natalia Broniarczyk, media contact and main spokesperson; Karolina Więckiewicz, legal activist; and Kinga Jelińska, the founder of the biggest organization providing abortions in Poland that is now based in the Netherlands.
The film remains timely. As of February 2024, when the film was completed, the anti-abortion law has not been changed in Poland, despite the victory of a new liberal government. In February 2025, the sentencing of one of the members of the Abortion Dream Team was overturned, and she will have to face a new trial.
Abortion Dream Team is directed by Karolina Lucyna Domagalska and Monika Kotecka and produced by Paprika Studios Poland and My Way Studios.
