Viaplay has confirmed as its next original documentary Liv Ullmann: The Road Less Travelled, which will offer a portrait of the Norwegian actress and director.

The English-language three-parter will combine new footage of Ullmann filmed in 2022 with exclusive interviews and archive material. Produced by Kaare Hersoug and Hege Christensen for Teddy TV and Une Søreide for Viaplay, Liv Ullmann: The Road Less Travelled will premiere exclusively on Viaplay in 2022 and is distributed globally by Viaplay Content Sales.

Ullmann received an Academy Honorary Award on March 25 in recognition of her long career as an actress, director, scriptwriter and activist, during which she has worked with the likes of Ingmar Bergman, Richard Attenborough and Terence Young. The docuseries is created by Dheeraj Akolkar, who collaborated with Ullmann on the 2012 feature Liv & Ingmar.

Ullmann received her honorary award alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Danny Glover and Elaine May. She was previously nominated for two Academy Awards for best actress, five Golden Globe Awards (winning one) and the Palme d’Or.

Filippa Wallestam, NENT Group’s chief content officer, said: “Liv Ullmann’s performances in film classics such as Scenes from a Marriage, The Emigrants and many more have established her in cinema history. Her Academy Honorary Award is an inspiration for the entire Nordic creative community. Viaplay’s latest international documentary gives viewers the chance to hear Liv’s amazing story in her own words.”
