Pay TV Set for Growth in Africa

Between 2020 and 2026, there will be almost 17 million new pay-TV subscribers across Africa, bringing the total to 51 million, according to Digital TV Research.

By market, Nigeria will have close to 11 million pay-TV subs, followed by South Africa with 9 million.

In terms of platforms, Multichoice, with its DStv and GOtv services, will grow to 19.7 million subs by 2026, up from 15.5 million at the end of 2020.

China-based StarTimes/StarSat will expand its footprint from 10.1 million subs at the end of last year to 16.9 million by 2026. Vivendi, via its Canal Plus satellite TV platform and Easy TV, had 5.4 million subscribers at the end of 2020. This is forecast to rise to 7.9 million by 2026.
