TV Azteca International’s historical drama Maria Magdalena has begun airing on the ZAP Novelas channel in Angola and Mozambique.

Maria Magdalena premiered yesterday on the African network, which is airing the show every weekday at 8 p.m. The 60×60-minute series chronicles the life of the titular passionate woman in an oppressive society dominated by men. It is co-produced by Dopamine and Sony Pictures Television.

Berta Orozco, TV Azteca International’s sales representative for Spain, Africa, Asia and French-speaking territories, remarked: “It is an honor that ZAP Novelas has chosen Maria Magdalena as one of the main productions for its channel; we are sure that the quality of the series will delight the audience and that they will fall in love with its history.”

Patricia Jasín, the VP of TV Azteca International, added: “It is a historical, biblical but very current series…about an empowered woman with a very modern problem.”
