MIAMI: Telemundo Media has licensed the rights for a number of films from Lionsgate, including The Hunger Games, which it will broadcast to U.S. audiences for the first time in Spanish.

The box-office hit The Hunger Games will debut on Telemundo in 2015. Additional films that are part of the pact include The Last Stand, The Three Musketeers and 16 other titles. In the past, the two have partnered to bring films such as the Twilight saga, The Expendables and Red, among others, to Spanish-language viewers in the U.S.

“Hispanic audiences are truly passionate about movies and are more likely to go to the theater than any other ethnic group,” said Maria Iregui, the VP of program planning and scheduling at Telemundo Media. “Our agreement with Lionsgate Films will bring blockbuster releases featuring their favorite stars, including Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, directly into their living rooms.”

“We are delighted to extend and expand our partnership with Telemundo to include numerous current and upcoming films,” added Jim Packer, Lionsgate’s president of worldwide television and digital distribution. “Telemundo is an iconic brand serving the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. entertainment audience, and we believe that these titles will resonate with their viewers for years to come.”
