BEVERLY HILLS: The Hunger Games and The Artist are part of a package of feature films headed to Netflix’s instant streaming service in Latin America and Brazil following the signing of a deal with leading distributor Telefilms.

The new films heading to Netflix, many of them as early as four months after their theatrical premiere, start with The Artist this month, to be followed by Shame, The Chernobyl Diaries and the new Woody Allen title To Rome with Love. The Hunger Games will be available in August. The Telefilms package also includes the upcoming theatricals Ender’s Game and Beautiful Creatures, plus library features like Million Dollar Baby and the more recent The King’s Speech.

In the nine months since its Latin American launch, Netflix has built up a subscriber base of more than 1 million customers.

"We are excited to now have such a fantastic flow of commercially successful and critically-acclaimed films for our members in the region," said Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer. "Telefilms has great taste and a great track record that now extends over 50 years and we are proud to be working with such a distinguished and successful company."

Tomas Darcyl, the president of Telefilms, noted, "We are pleased and honored to be part of this strategic alliance with the number one player in content streaming. By choosing to work with Telefilms, Netflix is providing Latin American consumers the most appealing and prestigious films available."
