LONDON/MIAMI: In an effort to bolster its Latin American TV operations, NBCUniversal has named Klaudia Bermudez as senior VP and general manager of the region for Universal Networks International (UNI).

Bermudez will start her new role on June 2 and will be based in Miami, where she’ll report to Ken Bettsteller, the managing director for Latin America at NBCUniversal International Television. The exec’s duties will include managing the day-to-day activity of UNI’s channel business across the region. She’ll also be charged with driving growth opportunities for UNI’s portfolio of channels, which include Universal Channel, Syfy and Studio Universal. The company also has a joint venture for its regional Latin American E! Entertainment Television channel. In Brazil, NBCUniversal operates a joint venture with Globosat for Universal Channel, Syfy and Studio Universal.

Bermudez previously worked at Sony Pictures Television, serving as the senior VP and general manager of SPE Networks Latin America, the company’s networks business in the region. She also held the same title for SPT’s advertising sales in Latin America.

“We are thrilled that Klaudia is joining NBCUniversal International Television’s growing team for Latin America,” commented Bettsteller. “Her track record, extensive relationships and strategic vision will enable us to continue to capitalize on the dynamic opportunities across the region as we focus on further growth.”

Bermudez added: “NBCUniversal is a company with a strong vision and is very focused on investing in Latin America. The company is well positioned to lead this dynamic region in all aspects of the television business, and I am excited to bring my years of experience in the Latin American pay-TV industry to help achieve their growth ambitions.”
