SÃO PAULO: Through a partnership with Sony, Brazilian network Globo is slated to air three matches of the upcoming World Cup in 4K ultra-high definition.

The games will be one match from the round of 16 (June 28), one from the quarterfinal (July 4) and the tournament’s last game (July 13) in Rio de Janeiro. The broadcasts mark the first live, 4K over-the-air transmissions in Brazil, according to the network. The special broadcast will be shown on optimized Sony TVs set up in Rio.

Globo has used 4K cameras in past productions. Those cameras capture images with four times more resolution than the current HD tech.
