SANTIAGO: DIRECTV Latin America and ESPN will deliver 3D coverage of five events from the London 2012 Olympic Games in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Customers of the DIRECTV Plus HD tier with 3D-capable sets will be able to watch the opening and closing ceremonies, plus women’s artistic gymnastics, track and field finals and men’s basketball finals on ESPN3D.

“We are very pleased to be present for this historic three-dimensional coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games,” said Federico Reyna, the senior director of acquisitions and new media for ESPN Latin America. “ESPN continues to develop best practices for the use of technology in applications for broadcasting live sports.”

“We are very proud to be able to offer our subscribers in the region this surprising, exclusive, first time ever broadcast in Latin America," added Guillermo Barreto, the director of sports programming for DIRECTV Latin America. "DIRECTV viewers who already have a HD subscription will be able to access six channels dedicated to the Olympic Games 24/7—two of them also available in high definition—plus two standard digital interactive channels for image and information and now they will also be able to enjoy these five events in 3D."
