ESPN International Renews Rights for Spanish Soccer in Brazil

MIAMI: ESPN International has extended its exclusive rights in Brazil for the Spanish soccer leagues La Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante, clinching a five-year multimedia agreement lasting until the 2019-20 season.

The agreement includes exclusive TV and internet rights, along with non-exclusive radio rights, for all league matches per season. Also included are the annual promotion and relegation playoff matches. As part of the deal, ESPN has the right to air all 380 La Liga BBVA matches and over 80 hours of highlights, magazine and other support programming each season.

“La Liga BBVA is a fantastic league that features some of the highest quality and most attractive football in Europe and we’re very pleased to bring it to Brazilian fans for the next five seasons,” said Tim Bunnell, the senior VP of production, programming, marketing and advertising sales at ESPN International.

“La Liga is a dynamic property and a key part of Brazil’s international football schedule,” said German Hartenstein, the general manager of ESPN Brasil. “We know Brazilians are avid fans of La Liga and many of its players and are thrilled to bring it to them on our platforms.”
