After a 15-year break, Survivor is returning to Colombia, with RCN producing a new version of Banijay Rights’ adventure-reality megaformat for 2023.

The deal for Survivor, La Isla de los Famosos was announced as MIP Cancun draws to a close in Mexico today and follows the return of the brand—marking its 25th anniversary this year—to the U.K. on BBC One and iPlayer.

Michelle Wasserman, senior VP of LatAm, U.S. Hispanic and Brazil at Banijay Rights, who brokered the deal, commented, “More than 15 years has passed since Survivor last graced television screens in Colombia, so we are thrilled to secure this deal and work with RCN to revive this world-famous format.”

Eugenia Vélez, VP of programming and marketing at the Colombian broadcaster, added, “Canal RCN has proven to have the capacity and production team made up of experts in making amazing and challenging formats, which is why we are very proud to bring back to our screen a format like Survivor, la Isla de los Famosos, which fits very well with our purpose of continuing to create entertaining content for the whole family.”

Survivor, created by Charlie Parsons and first broadcast in Sweden in 1997, has spawned a total of 50 versions, with more than 350 series commissioned around the world to date.
