MIPTV Sets Focus on 4K Ultra-HDTV

PARIS: MIPTV, which this year features the theme of Screening the Future, has a lineup of conferences and technical presentations that focus on 4K ultra-high-definition television and beyond.

On Monday, April 8, from 5 p.m. to 5:40 p.m., the MIPCube producers’ hub will be the venue for a session on 4K, providing a look at what this technology has to offer. There will be an Ultra-HDTV Super Session on the Wednesday morning, in which delegates can get the latest forecasts, view the latest 4K content and hear experts discuss why they are already shooting in 4K or planning for ultra-HDTV. This includes Mike Gunton, the head of the BBC’s Natural History Unit, and Gary Davey, the executive VP of programming at Sky Deutschland. Also part of the speaker lineup are Norbert Hoelzle, the CCO of SES Astra Luxembourg; Tom Morrod, the research director at IHS Electronics & Media; Beri Kropac, the managing director of Kropac Media; Barry Bassett, the managing director of VMI and David Wood, the deputy director of technology and development for the European Broadcasting Union.

“The 4K format is more than just the next step along the road in terms of improved image quality. It offers spectacular detail that opens the possibility for a whole new way of shooting; such is the richness of the image quality. MIPTV aims to make producers aware that 4K is here, and it’s now, and that they have to plan for it,” said Laurine Garaude, the director of Reed MIDEM’s Television Division.
