Channel 4 Hires Digital Commissioner for Comedy

Channel 4 has appointed Charlie Hyland as digital commissioner, focused on comedy and reporting to Sacha Khari, head of digital commissioning.

In this new role, Hyland will have a remit to commission and deliver a slate of digital-first comedy and entertainment content, targeting new and wider audiences from niche to mainstream. He will also work with suppliers to create distinctive comedy suitable for all social platforms.

Hyland most recently served as series producer on E4’s Pete and Sam’s Reality News and the Married at First Sight UK spin-off show Afters, as well as series development producer on Haks World for the BBC.

Hyland will join Channel 4 in December.

Khari said: “Charlie’s awareness of new comedic talent and his vision to drive them forward through amazing formats will be invaluable as we continue to elevate our digital comedy offering. He’s editorially brilliant, and we’re all absolutely elated to bring his expertise, ambition and humor to the team.”

Hyland said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Channel 4 family at such an exciting time in its history and I can’t wait to continue its legacy in making comedy that not only pushes boundaries but champions unheard voices and stories. As someone who only really wanted to work in TV after watching Channel 4 comedies, joining Sacha’s new digital department and being given the chance to bring C4’s distinctive comic taste to a new generation is a privilege and an honor.”
